About Alfresco Furniture

Alfresco furniture has been making Adirondack garden furniture for many years with a vast knowledge of the Adirondack market in the U.K. the company first started making its own designs in garden furniture which was like a lollipop chair. The back slats were rounded in the middle and curves on either side. This was in 2001.

We then progressed onto the Adirondack chair after seeing the chair on the Internet and decided to copy a design from the Internet and the Adirondack chair made by Alfresco furniture was available from early 2002. The first time we did a show was the Ideal Home Exhibition in Lincoln at the beginning of Feb, and it was a cold weekend with only one sale for a Loveseat, an expensive show !! It took a long time to find the right sort of shows to sell from. I only attend certain Garden shows now as the expense and disappointment is just not worth the hassle. This is what has brought the company to the Internet, but the only downfall is the customer cannot try the comfort of the chair on the net.

A Little History

The Adirondack chair originated from around 1903 in a town called Westport near the Adirondack mountains by a man called Thomas Lee. He wanted to create some outdoor furniture for his family where they used to holiday in the Adirondack mountains. He tested his designs on his large family 22. They all agreed it was a comfortable chair and then came the Westport plank chair which is known today as the Adirondack/Muskoka chair.
